BORROWING & RETURNING

How to borrow books from library?

  • Borrowing Privilege
  • Open shelf collection can be borrowed by all registered members according to the Library circulation policy.
  • Reference, journal and closed stack collection are not available for loan.
  • Service Counter provides loans, returns, renewals and reservations services.
  • Borrowing period for Academic Reserve Collection is 7 days for 1 book for students and staffs.
  • All materials at Za'ba Memorial Library cannot be borrowed out by the user, only borrowed for internal reading.
  • Reference Collection Materials may not be borrowed except for urgent reasons by the academic staff only.
  • The library reserves the right to recall books for office use after two weeks of borrowing.

More details about borrowing policy, refer to the Table of Borrowing Privilege. The policy applies to the Central Library only. Please refer to loan policy and eligibility at the branch libraries and special libraries web pages.

  • Borrowing Regulations
  • Access to Interaktif Portal and remote access of e-resources are restricted to UM staffs and students only.External members ;Alumni and public may view the e-resources onsite with or without charges.
  • Access and borrowing privileges are not transferable. Borrowers are not permitted to borrow or renew on behalf of other members.
  • Members intending to borrow library materials must produce their matriculation/membership card at the Service Counter.
  • Renewals

Open shelves collection can be renewed three (3) times unless they have been reserve by other users. Renewals can be done by telephone, email or online. See Tutorial: Materials Online Renewal: Terms and Condition.

  • Reservation

Books on a loan may be reserved. Reservations are made at the Service Counter. Online reservation also can be done at Pendeta Discovery. Make sure you login to My Account. See Tutorial: Materials Online Reservation : Terms and Conditions

  • Locating Library Materials

If an item cannot be located and is not in circulation, the staff at the reference desk will be able to assist. To obtain this service, a green search card will have to be filled. A book search would normally take 3 working days. Users will be notified when the item is found or a search is completed.

  • Overdue Fines

Borrowers are responsible for returning books before or on the due date. Fines will be imposed for items that are overdue.

Users who are charged with late return penalty may submit a fine reduction request, subject to the following conditions:

1. Appeal must be made in writing on a reasonable basis.
2. The late return penalty must be more than RM50.00 for Students and RM100.00 for Staff and other membership categories.
3. Appeal approval can only be given once.

  • Charges for Materials Not Returned

Lost materials or materials not returned upon expiration of membership will be the responsibility of members. Members will be required to replace or pa y twice the cost of replacing the books (based on the current market value of lost i tems) or subject to a minimum charge of RM50.00 per book for local publication and RM120.00 per book for foreign publication or whichever is higher.

  • Notification

We shall help you by keeping track of your borrowed or requested items. Do not reply as all of our automatic emails are originate from the library system. Email is a courtesy, not receiving email doesn’t exempt you from fines on overdue items. The email will be sent to the registered email in your library account. 

Any student who doesn’t returned the  book after its overdue date will be penalized and they are barred from convocation. For staff, their salary will be deducted upon their completion of service.
